1841

Graham's Magazine published Edgar Allan Poe's "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," a short store that is considered one of the first detective stories.

1912

Both Boston's Fenway Park and Detroit's Navin Field open. The Red Sox win over the New York Highlanders 7-6 and the Tigers defeat the Cleveland Naps 6-5. Both games stretched into 11 innings.

1916

The Chicago Cubs played their first game at Weeghman Park (later renamed Wrigley Field). After three hours and 11 innings, the Cubs brought home a 7-6 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

2006

Joe Carlucci set a world record when he tossed about 20 ounces of pizza dough 21 feet 5 inches into the air. He set the record at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Check out these other pizza world records.
